Historic town centre

Tecklenburg is a romantic, medieval mountain town on a ridge of the Teutoburg Forest - with a wide view of the Münsterland park landscape. The climatic and Kneipp spa enchants with its medieval town centre with romantic half-timbered houses. The old town is characterised by narrow alleys and stairways, dreamy nooks and historic half-timbered houses.

The castle ruins are an impressive backdrop and one of the town's biggest attractions: Germany's largest open-air stage with a top-class musical programme is located there. In addition, Haus Marck moated castle lies in an idyllic valley meadow at the foot of the historic town: not only a negotiating site for the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, but also the birthplace of the theologian Friedrich von Bodelschwingh (1831).

The districts of Brochterbeck, Ledde and Leeden exude village flair. Legendary rock and cliff formations, hilly landscapes and dense forests invite you to experience nature in Tecklenburg. The best conditions for active holidaymakers. Tecklenburg is home to the first premium town hiking trail in NRW - the Teutostadtschleife (Teuto Town Loop), full of cultural history and nature experiences. The Teuto loops as well as the short tours "Teutoschleifchen" also invite you to go hiking. In addition to the Hermannsweg, the family-friendly "Witches' Trail" is also exciting. Attractive guided tours of the town or a round trip in the historic stagecoach from 1894 await visitors.
