Park/gardens

In the extensive gardens, walkers will find peaceful paths with sculptures and art objects. The large lawns are ideal for games and sports. Joggers love to do their laps through the city park. For families, there is a large playground, a miniature golf course, a boules court and a chess corner. Not far away is the open-air swimming pool and the ice rink.

In the summer months, public concerts are held in the concert shell.

History information

In the 15th century, an estate located outside the medieval town stood on the present site of the town park. In the 19th century, an entrepreneur from Rheine acquired the estate and had a four-hectare landscape park laid out in the English style. In the middle of the following century, his heirs offered the entire private property to the city of Rheine for sale. The town acquired the land in 1951 and since 1952 the old estate has been available to the citizens as a local recreation area. The "Verein Stadtpark" (City Park Association), founded in 1951, is still committed to the development possibilities of the park today.
