Tourist attractions – various

Since 2003 the Friedensreiter Fountain has been on display on the market square in Lengerich. The artist Volker Johannes Trieb takes up the theme of the Thirty Years' War in the region, as the Peace Rider proclaimed the message of the peace treaty in 1648. Representatives of the warring parties met in Münster and Osnabrück in 1645 for the so-called "Lengericher Conclusum" in the run-up to the peace treaty. The result: for the first time imperial estates and free imperial cities had a say in political matters in the forthcoming peace negotiations. To this day the peace rider embodies the idea of peace.

Information for cyclists
In terms of landscape, the Tecklenburger Land is a very special exception in the Münsterland region. Here, cyclists encounter the foothills of the Teutoburg Forest and thus also elevations in the otherwise flat Münsterland region. Lengerich is also located in the middle of this unique landscape and offers great opportunities for guests. A stopover in the historic old town is a must on a cycling tour.
The Peace Rider Fountain on the town hall square is of course on the Peace Route, as it symbolises the peace riders who announced the conclusion of peace after the Thirty Years' War. Unique experiences are also offered above all by the numerous themed cycle routes that wind through the beautiful landscape. The following themed routes run from the town hall square:
NaTourism Route
100 castles route, north route
Legend Route
Peace Route
Cyclists can experience the special features of this beautiful region on the 4500-kilometre Münsterland cycle route network.
