LVR Industrial Museum Old Dombach Paper Mill

Half-timbered houses in a green valley landscape, streams and a rattling mill wheel - this is how the former Alte Dombach paper mill welcomes you. Germany's largest paper museum is all about the production and use of paper over the past 200 years. Visitors can experience a rumbling rag stamping mill, create a sheet of paper themselves and see a laboratory paper machine at work. Numerous extraordinary, impressive, everyday and even curious exhibits show the place of paper in our world.

The PM4, a paper machine from 1889, is forty metres long and five metres high and demonstrates the progress of industrialisation. Paper theatres, friendship books, historical packaging and other paper products tell of the use of paper in earlier times and provide information about the change in educational opportunities, the development from self-sufficiency to supermarket shopping and modern hygiene standards. Today, millions of tonnes of paper are produced every year - what this means for our environment is also vividly illustrated.

In the idyllic outdoor area, you will find more historical machines and various plants that can be used to make paper. You can experience how the papermaking families lived in the 19th century in a small workers' house.

The rustic "Alte Dombach" café invites you to take a break. (Please note: temporarily closed due to a change of tenant.) And the little ones can let off steam in the large playground - including a mud pit and also themed around the paper mill.

A paper festival takes place every year in May/June and the popular paper market in August/September.
