Park at Gravenhorst Monastery

Along romantic moats and along small paths, visitors to the park at Gravenhorst Monastery either reach the lovingly designed art garden or the surrounding woods. The park has a number of entertaining and contemplative "attractions", such as a labyrinth, a willow tube, a small playground or changing exhibits from the Kunsthaus. But even without taking advantage of these offers, a walk through the well-kept grounds is impressive. Here and there, stone witnesses and mementos recall monastery days, and the romantic monastery wall is a popular photo spot. The park is a popular entry and exit point for many hikers and cyclists, as the tour can be excellently combined with a visit to the DA Kunsthaus, a delicious piece of cake at Café Klara or a tasty meal at the Greek restaurant.

The DA Kunsthaus Kloster Gravenhorst with its park and Café Klara are located in honeycombs 8 and 9 of the Münsterland cycling region. With a cycle path along Gravenhorster Straße, the monastery is well connected to the NRW cycling network.
The Hase-Ems route runs along the monastery, and the NaTourismusroute des Tecklenburger Landes and the Sagenroute are located towards Ibbenbüren. Mountain bikers like to take a tour along the Hermannsweg through the Teutoburg Forest, which is also in the immediate vicinity. If you like it a little flatter, follow the Mittalland Canal or the Dortmund-Ems Canal.
Riding route
The Münsterland riding route is located in the immediate vicinity in the direction of the Teutoburg Forest, near Riesenbeck. Here, horse and rider can expect various riding trails with sandy as well as natural surfaces.
Hiking routes
Directly at the monastery garden is the small "Nonnenpättken" with good signposting. The small path leads through the monastery garden, through an adjacent forest and around the grounds.
For those with a little more stamina and strength, the Teutoburg Forest awaits with Hermannshöhen and Teutoschleifen. From the car park at the back, it is about 1.5 kilometres into the forest before you find yourself in the middle of the wooded mountains. Here, hikers can follow the Hermannsweg (white "H" on a black background) or, for example, the Teuto loops "Waldauenweg" or the "schöne Aussicht". Numerous seating areas and historical highlights are part of all hiking routes.
