    The Emsdetten municipal library is located near the city centre in a historic Art Nouveau villa dating from 1887. The library building is worth a visit from the outside alone. In addition to a wide range of media, the library also offers an extensive service with guided tours and events.

    The city library also includes the "Leselust" café with a beautiful terrace. The perfect place to relax.

    History information

    The Emsdetten municipal library is one of the architectural highlights of the city. At the centre of the building is the historic Jungendstil Villa Schilgen. It was built in 1887 according to the design of the architect Wilhelm Rincklake. In 1903, the two-storey plaster villa was enlarged and given its present appearance. The villa bears witness to the heyday of the textile industry in Emsdetten and, together with other villas, is characteristic of the style of the time.

    In 1992, a modern extension was added to the municipal library building. The library extension created an open space for people to meet and exchange - a harmonious connection between young and old.

    The town of Emsdetten is located about 30 km north of Münster, centrally in the Münsterland region. The municipal library is located on Kirchstraße near the city centre.

    Travelling by car:
    Approach via the A 1: Exit Emsdetten/ Greven - direction Emsdetten (via B 481).
    Via the A 30: Exit 11b Ibbenbüren - towards Saerbeck (B 219), continue on the B 475 towards Rheine/ Emsdetten/ Saerbeck
    From Emsdetten follow the signs to Neuenkirchen.
