A scenic jewel
Already in 1836, the earthy scenery at the right bank of the river Rhine was put under protection. Even though seven of its many mountains rise up significantly, the name “Siebengebirge” (translated directly: seven mountains) originally means “Siefengebirge”, which is meant to be a “mountainous region with lots of valleys”.

The Siebengebirge is said to be the oldest national park in Germany. More than 200 kilometres of well-marked hiking trails lead through this low mountain range of volcanic origin. The Siebengebirge counts more than 40 hills and mountains offering wonderful views into the Rhine Valley and the surrounding woods. Due to its geological specialties, the Siebengebirge enjoys a world-wide reputation among nature lovers.
Numerous benches, barbecue huts and inns invite hikers to stay for a while.
