Miel Castle is located 12 kilometres west of Bonn in the municipality of Swisttal.
Miel Castle first appears in the history books as "Burg Miel" in 1218. In 1735, the building was almost completely destroyed in a fire. The owner at the time, Caspar Anton, Baron von der Heyden, known as Belderbusch, had a new building erected, which was occupied in 1772.
The castle has been privately owned by a Bonn family since 1991 and has been extensively renovated in the late Baroque style since then. The same applies to the park-like baroque garden. The estate was faithfully restored to its original state, just as it was in Belderbusch's time, for the opening of the exhibition "The Crack in the Sky" in 2000.
Today's baroque palace is architecturally modelled on a hunting lodge in the style of Louis XIV and was built in just four years. Particularly worth seeing is the castle's garden hall, which is decorated with murals that have been preserved in their original state. If you would like to delve even deeper into the history of the castle, you can take a guided tour. The castle can be visited by groups of 10 people or more. The tour takes about 1 hour and costs 10 euros per person.
Miel Castle is also home to a golf club. This is one of the most renowned golf clubs in the Cologne/Bonn region. With its 18 golf holes, the very well-kept greens and the wide range of services on offer, the golf course is one of the most popular golf courses in the Cologne/Bonn region and beyond. The focus of Golf-Club Schloss is clearly on the experience for golfers and also "not-yet-golfers" from the Bonn area. In order to make this golfing experience as perfect as possible for each individual golfer, the Cologne Bonn Golf Club endeavours to come closer to perfection in every area. This perfection is reflected in a comprehensive range of golf services, as well as the daily and thorough maintenance of the golf course.
Schloss Miel is one of the most popular locations for parties, celebrations, weddings and corporate events in the region. Function rooms for up to 120 people, extensive, elegant green spaces for events of all kinds and the Graf Belderbusch restaurant together provide the basis for special events.
