Kottenforst railway station is a popular excursion destination with an idyllic beer garden and playground in the middle of the Kottenforst.
Built in 1880, Kottenforst railway station is a gem of German carpentry from a time when half-timbered buildings were no longer used: with a domed hipped roof, struts and white plaster. A backward-looking romanticism and a longing for the good old days have created a monument here in the middle of the forest. Trains now only stop at Kottenforst station, which is more of an inn with a railway siding, at weekends and on public holidays. Visitors come by train every hour, and of course also by bike, hikers, Nordic walkers and increasingly on horseback. In autumn and winter you can sit in the cosy station restaurant, in spring and summer outside under the oak trees, where you can enjoy home-style cooking, coffee with home-baked cakes, function rooms for up to 60 people and a beer garden for up to 100 people. The "old signal box" room can accommodate up to 40 people. The former goods shed offers space for parties of up to approx. 50 people.
