The medieval Schloss Loersfeld castle is located in the middle of an approximately 10-hectare English landscape park, and is one of the most beautiful castle complexes in Germany. The property of the lords of Loersfeld was officially mentioned in 1262, although it is likely that a manor already existed on this site beforehand. Today’s castle was mainly built towards the end of the 15th and 16th centuries, was largely spared destruction during the numerous wars of the medieval and early modern eras, and has therefore survived almost entirely unchanged. Schloss Loersfeld is therefore one of the few castle complexes in existence where the development from the wooden tower of the early castle fortifications to the stone fortified tower can still be seen. The castle has been owned by the von Fürstenberg barons since 1819, who made various additions and changes to the complex. The Second World War and the strong water table drawdowns as a result of open-cast hard coal mining have caused severe damage to the building substance. From 1990 to 1992, after subsidence resulting from the water table drawdown came to an end, the castle was extensively renovated by the Bellefontaine family (with support from the owner), who have leased the castle since the 1960s.
Today, Thomas Bellefontaine runs a gourmet restaurant in the manor house.

The building is available for family events, car presentations, as a film set and as a seminar and exhibition venue.

Eating and drinking:
The restaurant in Schloss Loersfeld is among the top 100 restaurants in Germany. Elegance and a table culture that does justice to the historic building create the setting for excellent, classic cuisine. The restaurant has been awarded one star in the Guide Michelin and 14 points in the Gault Millau. The rooms, with their stucco decorations and beautiful antique furniture, offer a stylish backdrop. During the summer, guests can enjoy the view from the terrace onto the courtyard and park. During the winter months, open fires create a cosy warmth and a comforting atmosphere.
