The Broicher Mühle is located in the village of Villip in the municipality of Wachtberg in the immediate vicinity of the Wasserburgenroute. First mentioned in a document in 886, it is not only the last remaining historic commercial watermill in southern North Rhine-Westphalia, it can also look back on over 1100 years of history.
The Bedorf family has been running Broicher Mühle for more than three centuries, first as tenants and later as owners. Today, flour is still actively milled here for many bakeries from the Bonn region (and to the delight of many private customers). The water power from the mill pond located above, which is fed by three streams, is utilised via an upper water wheel with a diameter of approx. 5.6 m.
The flour mill has 3 grinding gears (2 millstones) for the production of wholemeal meal and wholemeal flour. To ensure a constant speed for the various conveyors, cleaning machines and grinding gears, an electric motor is connected in parallel to the central "water wheel" drive. It provides the necessary speed stability in the event of fluctuating water quantities over the course of the day or year.
The mill's products are sold in its own mill shop.
