The man, who loved to enthuse about travelling, got his own longed for place in Düsseldorf on the Jacobistrasse: The Schloss Jägerhof (Palace) dates back to 1772 and is perfect for presenting Goethe's life and work.

From letters, portraits, sketches and first editions to a lock of the poet's hair - the collection comprises around 50,000 objects. The museum is supported by the Anton and Katharina Kippenberg Foundation and the City of Düsseldorf. The extensive collection is based on what was once the largest private collection on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) and his time, built up by the publisher Anton Kippenberg (1874-1950). It includes manuscripts, books, art and handicrafts as well as a research library.

A special highlight is a room equipped with the latest technology and original exhibits on the subject of "Light, color and color theory" in Goethe's work.

The Goethe Museum Düsseldorf is one of the three major Goethe archives and research facilities. The institution includes the museum, the manuscript archive, the research library, the art collection and an event center.
