Haus Kessenich: Historic half-timbered farmhouse, museum of local history and venue for events.
Only a stone's throw away from the village square and the church, at the fork of Hauptstraße and Buschhovener Straße, surely the most beautiful half-timbered house in the village of Witterschlick immediately catches the eye: Haus Kessenich, next to the parish church of St. Lambertus a landmark of the village.
Built around 1800, it was the residential house of a farm run by the Kessenich family. Today it is owned by the municipality of Alfter.
The municipality has made part of the land available to the "Witterschlicker HeimatKultur e.V." association. The association's goal is to reappraise and maintain the history and cultural heritage of the village. The permanent exhibition on the cultural and economic history of Witterschlick, "From a farming village to an industrial town", is shown on the upper floor. The exhibition, designed by Helmut Fuhs, local historian and former headmaster of the primary school, and the Witterschlick artist Erich Beck, will be successively expanded. Changing exhibitions complete the offer, such as the "Witterschlicker Youth Art Prize" and "Witterschlicker Artists". In the courtyard of the house, there is the "Hofcafe" once a month from April to November. Then there is also wood-fired bread from the historic bakery. The musical programme is arranged by Witterschlicker formations.
