Museum/Exhibition

The House of Alfter History is a regional museum of a special kind.

In the heart of Alfter, idyllically situated between Alfter Castle and the parish church of St. Matthew Alfter, stands the House of Alfter History.
The building was erected in 1938/39 by architect Wilhelm Denniger as a Catholic youth home. Until the 1980s, it served the parish as a parish home and youth centre. From 1991 to 2007, it was used by the parish as a temporary home for asylum seekers.

With its founding in March 2009, the Friends of the House of Alfter History e.V. took over the house and part of the adjacent open space and, after intensive renovation of the house, established a local history museum there. The association documents the history of Alfter and makes it accessible to citizens of all ages. In exhibitions that change twice a year, local history topics are dealt with and presented with the help of photos, documents, everyday objects and, above all, stories. In the adjoining "Anna Garden", visitors can trace the village's rural past with old agricultural machinery against a historical backdrop.
