Church

The Provost Church of St. Clemens is part of the Telgte triad, along with the pilgrimage chapel and the Relígio. These three sights are among the special attractions of the historic old town. The late Gothic hall church was built in the 16th century and is one of the town's landmarks.

A tour of the exterior of the provost church is possible at any time. The pilgrimage church, which is well worth seeing, is also located in the immediate vicinity. The church is also visited on various guided tours of the old town. Information is available from the tourist information office.

History information

The present provost church was built in the 16th century. It is a late Gothic hall church of the Westphalian type, which replaced an old Romanesque church from the 13th century when construction began in 1522 . Thelatter had previouslybeendestroyed in a major town firearound1500.

A special treasure of the Provost Church is the 1623 hunger cloth. It is on display in the neighbouring museum REGIO and exhibited in the neighbouring museum.

Arrival
Telgte is located about 14 kilometres east of Münster in the Münsterland park landscape. The Provost Church of St. Clemens is located on the edge of the old town next to the pilgrimage chapel in the immediate vicinity of the River Ems.
Getting there by car:
Telgte can be reached by car via the A1 (Cologne - Bremen) or the A43 (Wuppertal - Münster). From Münster it is about twelve kilometres on the B51 towards Telgte. Guests are best advised to follow the signs to Emstor.
Travelling by bus and train:
Telgte lies on the Münster - Rheda-Wiedenbrück railway line. From the railway station in Telgte it is about a ten-minute walk to the historic old town.
Lines R11 and R13 run from Münster main station to Telgte town centre. The journey takes about 30 minutes.
Parking
There are a few parking spaces directly at the Propsteikirche. Further parking is available at Knickenbergplatz, at Emstor and in Antoniusstraße. From there it is about a five-minute walk to the Clemens Church.
