Once a settlement on the important Roman road Trier-Cologne, today a tranquil place for cultural and scenic enjoyment: The remains of Marcomagus can be found in the archaeological landscape park of the Eifel community of Nettersheim. You can see parts of the original road layout, residential and commercial buildings, a fortification, and the Matron shrine "Görresburg". The landscape park is accessed via a 4.5 km circular path that starts at the nature center. On certain dates, you can even be driven around in a Roman chariot. Or do you love criminal cases? Then take along the interactive crime story "The Crime on the Temple Mount," which is sold at the nature center. While you're there, you should also check out an exhibit featuring original Roman excavation finds.
Near the Green Pütz, a gigantic water pipeline once originated, bringing fresh spring water to the Roman city of Cologne. The route is now followed by the Roman Canal Hiking Trail. The first two stages can be comfortably undertaken from Nettersheim.
