Leaves rustle gently in the wind, birds chirp, and there is a rustling on the soft forest floor: At the National Park Center Eifel at the “International Square” Vogelsang IP , visitors experience nature with all their senses. Both indoors and outdoors. Surrounded by dense mixed deciduous forests, the modern visitor center above Lake Urft houses the exhibition “Wilderness (t)räume” – a barrier-free and interactive nature experience for people of all ages.

In the heart of the National Park Eifel, where nature has increasingly been left to its own devices since 2004, giving rise to the “primeval forest of tomorrow,” the exhibition traces the natural cycle of becoming and passing away in the national park across 2,000 square meters. Starting with a walk “From the Crown to the Roots” of a beech (primeval) forest, visitors are guided through fascinating water worlds, perceive the environment through the multifaceted eye of an animal, and gain an impression of the immense biodiversity that is gradually reclaiming its place in the forests between Cologne, Bonn, and Aachen. Touching and experimenting at the various stations is expressly encouraged.

Tactile models of animals, the smell of plants, and the soft fur of a beaver make the exhibition an exciting journey through the wilderness even for visually impaired people. A barrier-free guidance system in raised and Braille lettering leads the way through the seven modules. The content is conveyed in German, English, French, Dutch, and Easy Language, and tours are also available in sign language. Because the National Park Center Eifel views itself as an international meeting place that stands for tolerance, openness to the world, and a respectful approach to nature. From the terrace of the visitor center, which also addresses the turbulent history of the Vogelsang area in a second permanent exhibition, visitors can enjoy impressive panoramic views over the steep valleys, densely wooded forests, and lakes of the National Park Eifel.

The National Park Center Eifel is open year-round. It is also the starting point for regularly occurring ranger tours through the National Park Eifel.

The long-distance hiking trail Eifelsteig passes Vogelsang IP with the National Park Center Eifel on stage 4 (Einruhr - Gemünd).
