The Bördebahn is a single-track (formerly double-track), non-electrified branch line (formerly a main line) in the Rhineland, which branches off from the Eifelbahn westward in Euskirchen and leads through Zülpich to Düren. It is primarily significant today for freight transport.
The Eifel-Bördebahn RB 28 is the nucleus of the later Eifelbahn from (Düren via Euskirchen) to Mechernich, Kall, further to Gerolstein and Trier. In contrast to the Oleftalbahn, the Bördebahn was designed as a double-track main line between the district towns of Düren and Euskirchen. The line was closed to passenger traffic in 1983. Especially in today's era of high individual traffic volumes and high operating costs for automobiles, its strategic significance as a gap closure in the rail network of the Euregio Maas-Rhein becomes evident.
New: The Eifel-Bördebahn has been reactivated by the Rurtalbahn and operates at hourly intervals between Euskirchen and Düren. You can view the timetable on the homepage of IG Rurtalbahn e.V.
