Just a few kilometers from this Eifel viewpoint are the recreational facilities around Freilinger Lake and the officially recognized resort of Blankenheim. In addition to the many Eifel mountains, the Eifel viewpoint Hühnerberg features the ruins of the Schloßthal castle, a former larger medieval castle complex, colloquially known as "God's Finger." The castle complex was inhabited until the mid-15th century. The Stromberg visible from here is of volcanic origin. In the area of the holiday and leisure facilities at Freilinger Lake, just a few kilometers away, various recreational opportunities are available: boating, diving, fishing, surfing, renting barbecue facilities, or simply letting your soul dangle. Right next to Freilinger Lake is the 5-star camping facility "Eifel Camp Freilingen." Across from the campground, the municipality of Blankenheim is planning the construction of a holiday home residential complex with corresponding service buildings, leisure offerings, and a dining and accommodation business.
