Tourist attractions – various Structure/Modern architecture

The Dortmund-Ems Canal is an important federal waterway between Dortmund and Papenburg. Over a total length of more than 200 kilometres, the canal has to cross three rivers: the Lippe, the Stever and the Ems. The Old Canal Bridge is a remarkable architectural monument. The bridge, built in 1897, once spanned 67 metres over the Ems. Due to the excessive volume of freight, the canal crossing was replaced by a new, larger trough bridge in the 1930s. Today, the old canal bridge has been drained, but it is still an impressive technical monument.
