History information

Nestled in an avenue of linden trees in the small farming community of Mersch near Drensteinfurt, Haus Venne is situated in a beautiful rural setting. The pretty castle complex includes the simple brick main house and four symmetrically arranged outbuildings. A special eye-catcher is the garden house built by Johann Conrad Schlaun, which, however, is not visible in the front view.

Haus Venne was first mentioned in documents as early as the 13th century. It then changed hands several times before being taken over by the von Ascheberg family in 1611. From 1710 to 1716, the former Gräftenhaus was converted into a new Baroque complex according to plans by the architect Lambert Friedrich Corfey. Three of the outbuildings serve as farm buildings, while the fourth houses the castle chapel with its impressive and opulent rococo furnishings.

Today, bridal couples can get married in the stylish ambience of Haus Venne. Apart from that, the castle is privately owned and can only be visited on special occasions.
