Vantage point/Observation tower Bridge Services – various Tourist attractions – various

On a forest sofa, let your gaze wander comfortably over the Siebenbach valley and take in all seven meanders of the stream at a glance. On the way on the Heimatspur 05!

Since 2012, hikers have been able to enjoy a fantastic view from the Achterhöhe near Lutzerath. From the lookout platform at Siebenbachblick, a bridge structure that requires a head for heights, you can catch a glimpse of the Üssbach exactly seven times through the trees. Tired calves can be relaxed on a forest sofa.

The lookout platform is integrated into the Erlebnisweg Achterhöhe and is therefore only accessible on foot. The hiking trail offers spectacular views and treasures of nature. Eight experience points connect rare sights with typical ones over a distance of about five kilometers, with grand vistas followed by protected animal and plant species. With a bit of luck, you might spot red kites, badgers, red wood ants, or even tree falcons in their natural habitat. The circular walking path features eight experience points.

The first station is the chapel "Hammes Heiligenhäuschen." This shrine was built by the Hammes family about 200 years ago for religious reasons and as a thank-you for help with illnesses. At the badger burrows, which represent the second experience point, there is a chance of catching a glimpse of a shy badger leaving its burrow at night with a bit of luck. With calm and patience, you can observe tree falcons and pearl grass butterflies at the third experience point, the heath area, where heather and rare wood hyacinths grow. Station four offers the chance to take a break with a spectacular view. While the legs dangle from the forest sofas, visitors can cast their gaze deep down into the valley of the Üssbach. The further route of the Erlebnisweg Achterhöhe leads through a typical low forest for the Eifel, forming experience point five. The open forests are the result of an ancient form of management spanning thousands of years. At experience point six, the industrious workers of the red wood ant have built hills up to two meters high. A wetland habitat and the Three-Oak Hut together form the seventh station, where you can observe grass snakes and adders in their natural environment.

The final experience point along the trail is the archaeologically valuable remains of Roman burial mounds, which provide a glimpse into long bygone times.

Hike on the Heimatspur 05 over a distance of 5.4 km. After 3 km, you will reach the Achterhöhe.
