The most popular "Drees" in the town of Daun is the "Hotzendrees", located at the foot of the Burgberg (castle hill) and a stop on the "Drees" hiking trail. The tasty sparkling water "bounces" out of its source.

The "Burgbrunnen," as it is known by the people of Daun, is probably the most famous and beloved Drees in the city of Daun. The spring, located to the left of the Lieser at the foot of the Daun castle mountain, contains calcium-magnesium-sodium-hydrogen carbonate and emerges from the source with a water temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius, carbonated.

Its name comes from the Moselfrankish expression "Hotzen," which means to shake, rattle, and hop up and down. This aptly describes this captured mineral spring that indeed gushes out in bursts.

During the Dauner Drees hike, you will see hikers and locals along the way filling their bottles with the cool water. For centuries, people have enjoyed this tasty sparkling water for drinking and baking.

The Hotzendrees was already mentioned over 400 years ago by the Heidelberg physician and botanist Jakob Theodor Tabernämontanus in his herbal book published in 1588 under this name. There, he describes its healing effects on various illnesses.
Refresh and heal yourself along the way.
