Museum/Exhibition Tourist attractions – various

The Natural History Museum in the old town hall of Gerolstein is on the trail of nature. In addition to minerals, rocks and fossils from the region, there are also exhibits from the prehistoric and early history as well as the most species-rich collection of butterflies in the Eifel.

Since 1987, the Natural History Museum has been located in the old town hall (built in 1710) of the fountain town Gerolstein and contains selected exhibits from times long gone by. Under the motto "Time travel on the Eifelsteig", the interesting exhibition shows and explains, among other things, the enormous volcanic forces that led to the creation of today's breathtaking landscape around the premium hiking trail millions of years ago. Theme tours, especially for children, provide a fascinating insight into the fiery history of the volcano Eifel, duration approx. 1 hour, price 30,00 €/group excl. Admission per participant. Different types of rock, fossils, the replica of the beech hole cave, the interactive forest section and the fascinatingly colourful collection of butterflies in the attic of the baroque building guarantee an interesting variety every step of the way.

Entrance fees: adults 3,00 €, children & students 1,00 €, pensioners 2,00 €, groups 2,00 €/person

The Gerolstein Natural History Museum is located in the old town centre in Hauptstraße 72 below Löwenburg Castle. It is right next to the Telephone Museum and the famous pizzeria "Costa Verde".
Bus & Train
Take the train from Trier or Cologne to Gerolstein railway station or the regional bus service to the Gerolstein railway station bus stop (if you are travelling on the 700/777 bus from Daun, you can get off at the Gerolstein Brunnenstraße bus stop and walk). From Gerolstein station it is about 500 metres as the crow flies to the museum. It is best to follow Bahnhofsstraße southwards over the bridge and then along Brunnenplatz to the main street with its many shops and restaurants. After a short walk up the main street you will reach the old town centre, the so-called "Flecken", where you can see the large, white museum building from a distance.
By car
The museum can be reached by car from Pelm via the B410, then also following the main road. At the entrance to the village (first exit after the Aral petrol station), the road branches off at an acute angle to the left and you then follow the main road for about 700m to the museum. Sufficient parking spaces are available in a small car park about 100m further on. If you are coming from the west or north, take Sarresdorfer Straße over the station bridge and then continue straight on into the town centre, follow Rathausstraße for a short distance and then turn left into Hauptstraße, where you will reach the museum after about 400m.
The entrance to the museum is on the left-hand side of the building, past the St Nicodemus cross, where you reach the brown wooden entrance door via basalt steps.
