Tourist attractions – various Nature reserve/natural monument

"Tree of life" an approx. 35 m high, evergreen thuja (thuja plicata / giant tree of life) has been growing in Bad Bertricher Alleegarten in front of the Electoral Palace. The extraordinary tree is well preserved, protected as a natural monument and has already been mentioned in Clara Viebig's novels.

The giant tree of life in the Allengarten in Bad Bertrich looks back on a long history. It was planted in the centre of Bad Bertrich more than 350 years ago. In the meantime, it has developed into a "giant" and is protected as a natural monument.

Clara Viebig was inspired by the tree in her novella "The Tree of Life" around 1903. In it, the relationship to nature is strongly depicted. About this work: In this novella, the author processes the Eifel legend about the 'Suterwald' or the 'Sutermichel' and combines this myth with the popular superstition about the so-called 'tree of life', which is widespread in the region.

Anyone who walks or hikes through Bad Bertrich should visit this natural monument.
