In the old oak grove there are trees, some of which are 350 years old, on an area of around 7000 square metres.
The impressive collection of ancient, giant oaks in the middle of the small Eifel village Hasborn is probably unique in Germany. The mighty trees grow on the last hat forest and oldest natural monument in the region. According to tradition, the Hasborn oak grove was created during the 30-year war. Marauding gangs had made it impossible for the farmers to drive the pigs to graze in the surrounding oak forests. Instead, the villagers collected the acorns in the forest and poured them out to the animals on the edge of the village as fodder. Some of the fruits are said to have been worked into the ground by the four-legged animals, so that sprouts and shoots could develop, which today are a joy to walk on as impressive oak trees.
