Laxburg
Laxburg is the name given to the
area between Kaiserstrasse, Friedrich Wilhelmstrasse and Kasernenstrasse on the right bank of the Weser, which was created around the railway station with the
opening of the Cologne-Minden railway in 1847.
It was named after the building contractor Franz Lax, who first built his house here at Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße 3. In the period up to around 1858, he developed the surrounding properties.
Lax improved the infrastructure by building a fresh water supply and sewerage system as well as through his efforts to build a school. Lax also supported projects in the old city area of Minden, such as the construction of the "Tonhalle".
