Kaiservilla

The cigar manufacturer and councillor of commerce Fritz Leonhardi had his prestigious family residence built in 1879 as one of the first buildings on the site of the former fortifications.

The plans for the villa and its interior were drawn up by Hanoverian architect Christoph Hehl. The building, equipped with state-of-the-art living comfort, was designed in neo-Gothic style.

At the turn of the century, many residential buildings in Minden were built in this style. Only remnants of the important gardens remain. The name "Kaiservilla" goes back to a stay by Kaiser Wilhelm II on the occasion of a manoeuvre in 1889.
