Vantage point/Observation tower

A wonderful view of the Lippe region awaits you.

At the beginning of the 18th century, there was a windmill on the Saalberg above Sonneborn, which was used to grind grain. The windmill was in operation for around 150 years. The mill fell into disrepair when operations were discontinued. In the 1960s, the remains were converted into an observation tower, which is now known as the "Windmill Stump". It offers a magnificent panoramic view of the upper Bega and Humme valleys, the Weser Hills and the Teutoburg Forest. In good weather, the Köterberg can be seen to the south-east and the Hermannsdenkmal to the south-west.
