Hengsteysee

The Hengsteysee is one of six reservoirs in the Ruhr region operated by the Ruhrverband. It follows the course of the Ruhr and lies between Hagen, Herdecke and Dortmund.  

On sunny, warm days, the Hengsteysee is a popular destination.  

In the surrounding area there are beautiful playgrounds where children of all ages can enjoy and barbecue areas to spend the day relaxing. Around the Hengsteysee there is a 6.5 km long footpath and cycle path, which invites you to walk, jog, cycle or inline skate. Along the lake path you will find benches and small restaurants scattered around, which invite you to take a break and stay  

But water sports enthusiasts also get their money's worth. There is a canoe club, a boat rental and some beautiful spots for sailing. Why not hire a pedal boat and spend some time on the water in sunny weather.  

If a pedal boat is too small for you, you can also take the  "Freiherr vom Stein"   

From the first of May until mid-October, the passenger ship "Freiherr vom Stein" on the reservoir. It moors at the Schiffswinkel, the open-air swimming pool Hengstey, the Hohensyburg Island and the Lennemündung 

Do you prefer a longer walk? Then just follow the Ruhrtalweg towards Harkortsee, which is at least as beautiful as Hengsteysee.
