The Bollerborn spring was redesigned along the lines of the oldest local painting

The Bollerborn near Altenbeken is a rhythmically intermittent spring. Such springs have a special water flow: water flows at roughly equal intervals for a short time, then the springs dry up again until the next surge of water follows. The Bollerborn shares this rare flow characteristic with around 125 other springs worldwide.

The most important baroque painter in the Paderborn region, Johann Georg Rudolphi, created the landscape painting of "Fons Resonus, vulgo Bullerborn" in 1671, the oldest local painting in Altenbeken. The Bollerborn spring was redesigned in 2009 based on this model. The Paderborn sculptor Herbert Görder created the 180-kilogram Aquarius from Greek mythology based on this drawing. The hourglass in his right hand symbolizes the lost quality of the spring, which only flows intermittently.
