Our central task is to provide our customers with media and information. As a publicly accessible institution, the library provides all citizens with access to a wide range of information and thus contributes to equal opportunities.
We promote the development of reading and media skills in children and young people with our services and are thus competent partners in Herford's educational landscape. We also support the process of self-organized, lifelong learning. We offer a wide range of activities for creative, individual leisure activities.
The library is a central place of communication with its various events and is an essential part of the cultural infrastructure.
The library is an institution of Kultur Herford gGmbH.
Librarian Petra Beck has been head of the city library since 2016. The new, modern library program WinBIAP was introduced right at the beginning of her time in charge. In 2017 and 2018, the lending system was converted to RFID technology. 2019 saw the extensive refurbishment of the first floor. Due to the relocation of the tourist information office, the space was reallocated. The aim was to develop the city library into a third place and to improve the quality of stay. The media collection was also further expanded: In addition to further digital offerings, classic board games have also been added.
