Tugboat shipping on the Weser and the canals was in full bloom. The canal overpass and the Kaiser Wilhelm monument at the Porta were chosen as symbols for the association's flag.
All skippers in possession of civil rights were allowed to become members of the association. The first chairman4 was Fridolin Grote.
The first club flag was ceremoniously consecrated in 1953.
In 1957, the Eigene Mastanlage at the junction of the Mittellandkanal and the Schachtschleuse was ceremoniously inaugurated in the presence of the mayor and several city councillors as well as many guests.
