It is no secret that Düsseldorf has a special relationship with Japanese culture. But in addition to the vibrancy of Little Tokyo, there are two real hidden gems in the Hamm district: the Bonsai Museum and the Bonsai Workshop.

The primary aim is to make the art of bonsai accessible to the general public and also to promote the exchange between Japanese and German culture. This is exactly what founder Werner M. Busch has been doing for 40 years. The biologist, who lives in Bilk, discovered his passion for the Far Eastern garden art during his studies. He travelled to Japan several times to deepen his knowledge. Today he is a world-renowned expert. His workshops are in great demand. He is particularly passionate about encouraging young bonsai talent. The museum's 1,500 m² educational trail, with 120 bonsai trees, some over 100 years old, teaches the history and philosophy of bonsai, forms, design techniques and much more in a way that is suitable for children and laypeople.
