The western gatehouse marks the entrance to Marienburg Charterhouse. It refers to the former moated castle Weddern as the centre of the charterhouse. The history of the entire complex dates back to 1170.

Information for cyclists
The western gatehouse is located directly at the Münsterland junction system and is a great starting point for extensive cycle tours. If you like metres in altitude, turn off towards Billerbeck and you will be rewarded with beautiful views. The cycle paths towards Dülmen, Haltern am See or Lüdinghausen with its castles are gentler, but no less attractive.

Car parking is available at the nearby Anna-Katharinenstift.
Journey
By car via the A 43 motorway (Recklinghausen-Münster) to the Dülmen-Nord exit and from there on the B 474 federal road in the direction of Dülmen. Take the exit in the direction of Dülmen. Turn right at the next junction and take the 1st exit at the next roundabout in the direction of Rorup. After approx. 2 km turn right towards Karthaus. Turn left in the village and follow the road for a few metres.
Arrival by train via Dülmen railway station and continue with bus lines 565 or 660 to the bus stop Torbogen Kartaus. Trains from Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Mönchengladbach, Münster, Osnabrück and Recklinghausen stop at Dülmen railway station.
