The dragonfly moves to the Erft …
… and brings its friends along!
Do you know the game "I'm packing my suitcase"?
For us, it has a different name! Because the new Erft landscape hopes for many new residents.
Example: The dragonfly moves to the Erft and takes… the kingfisher with it.
Who else should the dragonfly take along?
Who will soon live by the Erft?
Here in Euskirchen, the Erft is finding its own way again: it has been renatured. This means it is allowed to flow freely through the landscape in loops and has plenty of space. The floodplains on the right and left of its banks are part of its ecosystem. This makes it resilient to crises. A natural floodplain landscape withstands dry periods and floods. They are even part of its cycle, and its inhabitants are adapted to changing conditions, such as the silver willow or the common frog. A natural river course harbors countless habitats for plants and animals. Additionally, it provides protection for us humans: during heavy rain or flood events, the water can spread across the area without causing significant damage.
