Cycle or hike through Solingen in comfort on the Korkenziehertrasse

On foot, on inline skates or by bike right through the middle of Solingen – no cars or traffic lights and above all without any uphill sections to speak of: The Korkenziehertrasse makes this possible.

Free and safe route for everyone

The former railway line is now an eleven-kilometre-long footpath and cycle path running from the outskirts of Haan through Gräfrath and Wald to the Südpark in the centre of Solingen. Numerous entry and exit points as well as disabled access make the Korkenziehertrasse accessible to everyone. Bridges and tunnels allow safe negotiation of major road crossings.

Great views from the Korkenziehertrasse
The Korkenziehertrasse runs like a green ribbon through the city area: It is lined with trees, bushes and park-like areas. There is a nice view of the varied cityscape and landscape in many places along the route. How about a short break? Comfortable benches are dotted along the route where you can stop and rest for a while.

On the tracks of the old “corkscrew” railway line
Since the Korkenziehertrasse line was converted into a footpath and cycle path in 2006, it has become a popular link and a well-used leisure route. However, there are still reminders of its railway past to this day. There are sections of rail track and references to historical milestones along the way and on the outskirts of Haan the route ends at a buffer stop. There are information boards at the various locations.

What’s more: It’s called the Korkenziehertrasse (“corkscrew route”) because its s-shaped course through the city resembles the thread of a corkscrew.
