Netphener Keltenweg (Netphen Celtic path)

Start by walking straight ahead through the fields in front of you. Pass through the Mühlenbachtal valley along the bank of the stream until you reach the source. You will pass varied woods until you enjoy a view to the west after 3 km. From here, take the slightly ascending path, which, during its course, takes you steeply uphill through the fir trees on the Homerich hill. After several changes of direction, which are well marked, turn right from the stony path onto a forest path. Once you arrive in Alfholderbach, keep to the left and walk about 150 m along the B 62 before crossing it. Now, you ascend up to the high summit of the “Alte Burg” castle. First, you pass through the open valley of the Afferbach stream before proceeding uphill through upland forest. Several crossings later and after a final steep section, you cross the outer ring wall. After 200 m, the second, inner wall follows, which is just as imposing, and you’ll find yourself on the summit in the heart of the former Celtic settlement. The path now leads steeply downhill, with views onto the Obernau reservoir. Further downhill, you reach Eschenbach via the “Hauberg” (mixed oak and birch woods). Cross the B 62 and ascend to the sports ground along an asphalt path. On the hill, turn left and walk downhill past grazing slopes on a wide track towards the starting point.

Netphen is accessible from the A45 via the Wilnsdorf or Siegen connecting roads. From the A4 and after the Olpe-Süd motorway junction, there is a connection via the B54 to Siegen. From there, follow the B62 via Dreis-Tiefenbach to Netphen. At the roundabout at the entrance to the town, take the second exit and follow the B62 in the direction of Erndtebrück. Shortly after the town exit from Netphen, the "Leimbachtal” hiking car park is on the left.

There is plenty free parking at the “Leimbachtal” hiking car park.

Long-distance travellers from Siegen can travel from Siegen ZOB on line R27 to the Netphen Altweise stop in Netphen. From there, the "Leimbachtal” hiking car park can be reached on foot along the 400 m pathway.
