Fachwerkweg Freudenberg (Freudenberg half-timbered building path)

Starting at the P4 car park, Burgstrasse/Hinterm Schloss, the path takes a slight uphill turn to the historic old town of Freudenberg, the “Alter Flecken” (“old small town”). As the path continues, walkers can enjoy an attractive view onto the black-and-white picture postcard town from the Kurpark (spa park). The route continues through the Gambachtal valley, past a reconstruction of a historical smelting furnace from the Middle Ages. The route now leads through the 400 m long disused railway tunnel towards Hohenhain. The tunnel is illuminated all year round. From there, the path continues uphill. It then turns to the right and continues towards Hammerhöhe through open meadows. Along the federal state boundary, the route continues towards Mausbach. On the boundary path, a picnic island is a good place to stop for a rest. From here, you can enjoy the panoramic view. The path continues downhill towards Alte Heide. After a brief, steep ascent, the path turns right towards Trulichsberg. Once you arrive there, you can soon see Freudenberg, and after a further uphill stretch, you reach the starting point of the tour.

No special abilities are required for the tour.

Sturdy shoes and suitable clothing for the weather are recommended.

The tour can be walked all year round.

The warm water pool in the Gambachtal valley is open from mid-May to mid-September.

If you’d prefer some serious sporting activity, the rope course, not far from the route on the Trulichsberg hill, is the place to go.

Via the A45 to the Freudenberg exit, then take the L562 to the centre of the town.
