Spectacular castle – wildly romantic stream valleys

A perfect dramaturgy: For this stage you start with the steep climb to the former castle complex on a spur high above the Sieg. This is followed by a tranquil exploration of the medieval old town. Then pure nature on paths through idyllic stream valleys. At the end, comfortable paths lead you downhill to your destination in Merten.

icon-info Details
If you look closely, you will discover the mighty walls and towers of the former castle complex on the approach high above the Sieg. You reach the mighty walls of the medieval town of Blankenberg via numerous steps and some paths. Stage 3 is one of the shortest, so you have some time to explore. You then pass the St. Katharina Church and soon you reach the damp valley of the Ahrenbach. On beautiful meadow paths and narrow paths right into the Ahrenbach and Adscheidertal nature reserves. There are numerous small springs in the narrow valleys that supply biotopes with moisture. Up through a sparse beech forest, across a meadow to Süchterscheid. At the Ravensteiner Bach, the landscape shows off its particularly diverse side and tempts you to pause before the stream flows into the Krabach. The romantic Krabachtal is a source of soothing peace. On comfortable forest and field paths through an extensive valley you reach the village of Merten, which looks back on a long history. The monastery complex with baroque park, which was converted into a castle, impressively testifies to this.
