Hiking parking lots on the Margarethenhöhe (clockwise hike recommended)

Located in the heart of the Siebengebirge Nature Park, the Margarethenhöhe is an ideal starting point for hikes and the Nature Park House of the Siebengebirge Beautification Association (VVS) is a good argument in its favor. This certainly includes the many parking facilities, albeit now for a fee. Here we describe the classic hiking variant with the main hiking trail to the Milchhäuschen, one of the forest inns in the Siebengebirge, as a stage destination.

On the way, we have the opportunity to enjoy views of the Jungfernhardt, the Geisberg or the Schallenberg. The latter requires a small, sometimes steep ascent. From the Milchhäuschen, we take the delivery access road to the parking lot at Dicken Stein, cross the bridge over the L 331 and hike along the Rheinsteig route up to the foot of the Nonnenstromberg. After a few hundred meters, we reach the second forest restaurant on our tour, the Waidmannsruh inn. We continue to Rosenau and here, too, it is worth a short climb to get a beautiful view of both the Rhine and the Oelberg. The trail continues through the sparse deciduous forest back to Margarethenhöhe and it becomes clear here at the latest that the sections of the trail described are often used for an excursion into the Siebengebirge on beautiful, sunny days, especially at weekends.

Details

The path from Margarethenhöhe via the Milchhäuschen forest restaurant to the parking lot at Dicken Stein on the L 331 runs steadily downhill. Then it is fairly flat in waves as far as the junction with the road access to the Waidmannsruh inn. From here, an ascent awaits us and we climb approx. 160 meters in altitude to the main hiking trail to the inn. This section of the hike back has only small ascents and descents, which are easily mastered on foot.
