Kangaroo bike tour: Off to the so-called “bare” mountain! On the old castle complex there is an exciting journey through time through the city. On the way through the Siegauen you can either swim or visit the Hennef climbing forest.

The entire route leads almost without exception through green Siegau meadows, the river is almost always within sight and is not only an eye-catcher and photo opportunity, but also a wonderful rest area and adventure space. In Siegburg-Buisdorf you can watch the jumping salmon at the fish ladder and find out more about the salmon's journey in the migratory fish knowledge house. Enjoy a swim in the Sieg at the swimming area in Hennef-Weingartsgasse. Canoeists dock their boats here to rest.

The next highlight on the route is Lake Allner, which can be easily reached via the Horstmannsteg in Hennef. On the playground and sunbathing lawn right by the lake you can play football, let shuttlecocks fly and of course swim in the lake. If you'd rather stroll around a bit, head to the nearby city center of Hennef. The train station with a direct S-Bahn connection is also located there and the Hennef climbing forest is only about 3 kilometers from this point. The facility consists of 14 courses of varying difficulty levels with many elements that were installed at a height of three to twelve meters in a tree-friendly manner. The climbing forest is designed for the whole family and offers plenty of challenges for both beginners and advanced climbers. Further along the Sieg you have several options in Lauthausen to pitch your tent after an eventful day. However, Lauthausen is on the other bank of the Siege. There is no direct bridge between the bike path and the campsite. So you have to leave the Sieg cycle path at junction 22 and then cycle towards Lauthausen. There are various campsites right on the water. There is also an official canoe entry and exit point here.

The town of Blankenberg awaits you just four kilometers away. You can easily recognize it from a bike by its landmark Blankenberg Castle. The castle complex with four towers and a city wall is well preserved. To visit it you should park your bikes at the bottom of a mill and use the hiking trail. The road to the castle is very steep and narrow. For wine connoisseurs there is a small museum with insights into the history of viticulture. A visit to the Katharinenturm informs you on four floors about the history of the city of Blankenberg, the city of Hennef and the region. An exciting journey through time awaits children in Blankenberg. Under the motto “Save the city of Blankenberg” you can solve puzzles at eight stations around and through the city. The puzzle booklet is available for download, but is also available locally in restaurants.

The Sieg cycle path is marked with the yellow logo throughout and is mostly on paved paths without major inclines. The Sieg cycle path is signposted from Siegburg train station. At junction 2, simply follow the Sieg cycle path sign towards Hennef. On the way from Siegburg to the city of Blankenberg you will pass the towns of Buisdorf, Weingartsgasse, Schockdorf, Hennef, Weldergoven, Lauthausen and Oberauel. On the journey to Hennef, just a few kilometers away, the cycle path repeatedly runs close to the river bank. The Hennef train station is in the immediate vicinity and after circling the Weldergoven settlement, the cycle path leads along close to the railway tracks. At the level of Lauthausen, the Sieg shows off its powerful side: the water rushes down a rapid with a roar and offers a lively sight. Around 200 m opposite the Blankenberg stop, the Sieg is crossed towards Oberauel and soon the mighty walls of the Blankenberg castle ruins greet you from a 150 m high mountain ridge. The castle ruins and the town of the same name with its beautiful half-timbered houses and well-preserved city walls form a fascinating historical ensemble and are definitely worth a visit.

Great view from top of the Burg Blankengerg!
