“Rebellen op Jöck” - this circular trail commemorates the ‘Vorgebirge rebel’ Wilhelm Maucher (1903-1993) and the resistance with which the ‘Landschaftsschutzverein Vorgebirge (LSV)’ opposed the extraction of quartz sandstone in the mid-1990s. The path in the “border area” of the municipalities of Alfter and Bornheim not only leads past sights such as the Jewish cemetery in Alfter, Maucher's Peace Path and the Old Castle, but also offers a fantastic view of the Rhine Valley, the Siebengebirge, Bonn and the foothills.

Cologne-Bonn region: popular circular hiking trail

The trail starts at the Alfter cemetery, leads up towards “Heimatblick” past the Jewish cemetery and the Friedensweg. There it leaves Alfter territory and follows the Bornheimer Blutpfad trail to the LSV observation tower “Fietzeks Weitsicht”. The route continues along the “Quarzsandgrube” nature reserve to the “Hochzeitswiese”. There the path turns off again towards Alfter. Through the nature reserve “An der Roisdorfer Hufebahn”, the trail leads to the old Alfter castle. From there, it is only a few meters to the “Böhling” viewpoint. The tour ends on the way back to the Alfter cemetery.

The start is at the Alfter cemetery (with parking). The ascent is via Buchholzweg to Hühnerbuschweg. Turn right here and pass the open-air hiking theater. After about 200 m, you will see the Alfter Jewish cemetery on the left. Continuing straight ahead, you enter the Friedensweg (peace path) laid out by Wilhelm Maucher. During the ascent, you will see the Blessing Christ on the right, a sculpture by Bonn sculptor Jakobus Linden. Before the closed gate to the “Heimatblick”, the path leads to the right with the first views of Alfter. After crossing the Brombeerweg, you come to the Blutpfad, which you follow to the left. Here you first have views of the Rhine valley towards Alfter, Bonn with Venusberg and the Siebengebirge mountains. Later, you can look towards Bornheim, Wesseling and Cologne. At the end of the Blutpfad, turn left onto Neuweg. First you see the pumping station and the elevated tank of Botzdorf, then the LSV observation tower “Fietzeks Weitsicht”. From the platform, you not only have a view of the quartz sand pit, but also of the “foothill villages” of Bornheim. The Neuweg trail continues along the quartz sand pit to the Hochzeitswiese meadow. This orchard meadow is part of the nature reserve “An der Roisdorfer Hufebahn”, which we now enter by turning left. At the end of the path, we turn right, heading southwest.
