Meckenheim

In Meckenheim, urban life meets fruit growing. The apple is not only found in the town's logo, but can also be seen in the thousands of apple trees that surround the town. Numerous fruit farms and farm stores offer regional produce straight from the field. In addition to fruit growing, its processing also plays an important role in Meckenheim. The large tree nursery fields are also striking and characterize the townscape. The Meckenheim loop leads along well-maintained paths through a multi-faceted town and the Kottenforst forest. It passes Lüftelberg Castle, Kottenforst railroad station and the Meckenheim town museum in the Altendorf Castle manor house. Coming from Klein Altendorf, the loop goes clockwise through the town center (Hauptstraße) due to the one-way street. Coming from Meckenheim station, the loop runs along the parallel street (Klosterstraße). The Meckenheim loop therefore has two GPX tracks. You can download the second one at www.apfelroute.nrw
