Cycle tour around Ahaus

The cycle tour follows the cycle paths on the junction system on a 50 km circular route to the most beautiful historical buildings around Ahaus. Nestled in the green and gentle landscape of the Münsterland, stately farms, lovely streams and culinary temptations offer plenty of variety.

Shortly after the start of the cycle tour, the idyllic Münsterland park landscape is already reached. Past the district of Wessum, the path leads north towards Heek. Far from the gates of the town, Haus Horst rises out of the flat landscape. A view over the moat sets the mood for the next sights.

Surrounded by wide meadows and the watercourse of the Dinkel, the Burgmannshöfe of Heek are the next stop on the cycle tour. The interplay of historic buildings is unique in Münsterland and a nice place for a break.

The cycle path now leads south through the "Dinkelniederung" nature reserve to the Düstermühle. Right next to the inn is the ancient water mill, whose documentary mention dates back to the year 115.

The Asbeck monastery in Legden looks back on a similarly long history. The Stations of the Cross and the dormitory, which is open at weekends, are definitely worth a visit.

Only a few kilometres further on, Legden awaits visitors with its dahlia garden. In the town centre, you have the opportunity to fortify yourself for the last part of the tour. Passing the historic Egelborg House, the cycle path leads back to Ahaus. The impressive baroque castle of Ahaus is the crowning glory of the tour.

Ahaus is regularly served by trains from Dortmund and Enschede. From the station it is only a few minutes to the entrance to the cycle route.

By car, Ahaus can be reached via the A 31 motorway (Oberhausen-Emden). From the Legden/Ahaus exit, follow the signs to Ahaus.

There are numerous parking spaces in Ahaus, most of which are chargeable in the city centre area. On Sundays, the parking spaces are free of charge.

On the outskirts of the city centre, motorists will find free parking spaces. The largest car park is the Kirmesplatz with 220 parking spaces.

The cycle tour runs along the red and white signposted Münsterland cycle route and is integrated into the junction system. The next destinations on the cycle route and the number of the next junction are indicated on the signposts. Intermediate signposts at junctions and turn-offs show the route of the route.

The cycle route itself is not specially signposted.
