Cycle tour around Nordkirchen

The landscape between Nordkirchen and Cappenberg on the southern edge of the Münsterland is surprisingly rich in woodland. Ancient trees and native plants characterise the circular route and enchant from spring until well into autumn. With the castles of Nordkirchen and Cappenberg, cyclists encounter two significant historical buildings with impressive histories.

Details

Even though Nordkirchen Castle beckons at the beginning of the cycle tour, the cycle path first turns into the 40-hectare Hirschpark. Mighty oaks and hornbeams alternate with generous green spaces. The area, which was placed under nature conservation in 2001, was used for a long time not only for hunting but also for horse breeding. A diverse flora and fauna has been preserved in the varied landscape to this day.

On the way south, the landscape opens up before the cycle path enters the Cappenberger Forst. The large forest area consists almost exclusively of beech and maple trees. At the other end of the forest is the picturesque Cappenberg Castle, one of the most important examples of Westphalian monastic architecture, which invites you to take a tour of its historic walls. The museum is at least as worth seeing as the unique panoramic view of the region.

On the way back to Nordkirchen, the cycle route offers a completely relaxed "cycling pleasure". Accompanied by fields and meadows, the cycle route strives towards Nordkirchen with its imposing castle grounds. A tour of the castle park with the dreamlike Venus Island crowns the cycle tour.

Arrival by bus and train via Werne station and from there by bus in the direction of Nordkirchen to the Lüdinghauser Straße stop.

By car, take the A1 motorway (Cologne-Bremen) to the Ascheberg exit. Turn onto the B58 in the direction of Ascheberg. After approx. 6.7 km, turn onto the K2 district road in the direction of Nordkirchen. In the town centre, follow the signs to the castle.

Free parking is available in the "Am Sundern" car park at Nordkirchen Castle.

The cycle route cannot be found in the official red and white signposting. The easiest way to navigate is by GPS track.
