Stage 2 of the Hohe Mark RadRoute starts in Velen and is about 27 kilometres long. The route first leads along flat fields and meadows to the Kuhlenvenn. There, various bird species can be observed from a viewing hut. The route then heads south through the Heubachniederung nature reserve, where there is another chance to admire a special natural landscape. The last section of the stage then goes gently uphill until finally reaching the finish in Reken.

Stage 2 begins with a ride through Velen. Those who have not yet had enough of the state-recognised resort can make a detour to the peat museum at the beginning of the route.

The route then heads north-east to the Kuhlenvenn nature reserve. The charming landscape of the nature reserve extends over 67 hectares. It was once the largest moorland in Westphalia. Today it consists of grassland, wet meadows and a lake.

Before stage 2 leads south to Reken. Cycling enthusiasts and nature lovers can extend their tour a little further. For example, with detours to the Fürstenkuhle nature reserve, the Coesfeld Heath or the Heidesee lake.

Once you arrive in Reken, you can put your feet up until the next stage or explore the Reken forest adventure trail with its low ropes course and Melchenberg. There is a lot to experience here, but you can also take a leisurely stroll and, if the weather is good, enjoy the view as far as the Metropole Ruhr and Münster.

Velen is characterised by its very good accessibility.

Arrival by car:

Via the A 31 motorway (Oberhausen - Emden) to the Borken exit. From there, take the B67 to the next exit and follow the signs to Velen.

Arrival by public transport:

Take the train to the station in Coesfeld. From there, take the R51 bus to the "Schloss, Velen" stop. From the bus stop it is another 700 metres to the Velen caravan park, the starting point of stage 2.

A public car park is located at the outdoor swimming pool in Velen, Landsbergallee 50, 46342 Velen.

The Hohe Mark RadRoute is signposted throughout.

It is part of the junction system and can be recognised by the red/white signs. At intersections, arrow or destination signs point in the right direction. Here cyclists will also find the Hohe Mark RadRoute logo with the green bicycle. Where the cycle paths only lead in one direction, there are regular rectangular intermediate signposts.

The Hohe Mark RadRoute makes it possible to take shortcuts via transverse bridges at four points - between Borken and Raesfeld and between Reken via Heiden and Dorsten. These are also part of the east, centre and west courses. The familiar route logo in reverse colour scheme (white bicycle on a green background) also guides you on the cross-paths.
