Over just 26 kilometres, this consistently flat cycle tour combines a village atmosphere with urban flair and castle culture with industrial heritage. Diepenbrock Castle, the LWL Textile Museum in Bocholt and the imposing St Gudula's Church in Rhede are highlights along the route.

A wide range of culinary delights await cyclists in the town centres - or how about a picnic with a view of a moated castle?

Details

The cycle tour starts at the town hall square in Rhede. From here, it is only a few metres to the imposing St. Gudula's Church. The surrounding cafés and restaurants offer the opportunity to stop for refreshments and a short time later the cycle route leads northwards via junctions 56 and 34. Cyclists are surrounded by a rural idyll on the way to Diepenbrock Castle. The castle is slightly off the cycle path. From junction 36, it is best to follow the cycle path in the direction of junction 5 and turn left at the end of the cycle path to Diepenbrock Castle.

The cycle path now leads to Bocholt via junctions 36, 37 and 43. A short detour to the market square with its historic town hall is definitely worthwhile. Locals and visitors meet here, especially on market days.

The cycle path leads south of the city centre to the "kubaii", Bocholt's new cultural quarter. The grounds of the LWL Textile Museum are always worth a visit. The museum provides a vivid insight into the history of the textile industry.

The cycle path now follows the Bocholter Aasee out of town. It is only a few kilometres to your destination in Rhede. A visit to the medicine and pharmacy museum is a nice end to the cycle tour.

In a small wooded area at Diepenbrock Castle there is an idyllic picnic area with a marvellous view of the moat, the park and the castle (at the main entrance, follow the path to the right along the moat).

Rhede can be reached by car via the main road B67 (Bocholt-Borken). From the Rhede exit, follow the signs in the direction of the town centre.

The nearest railway stations are in Borken and Bocholt. Bus route 51 runs regularly from both railway stations to Rhede. Trains from Düsseldorf, Oberhausen and Dinslaken stop in Bocholt, trains from Essen, Bottrop, Gladbeck and Dorsten stop in Borken.

Free parking is available at the Kettelerstraße car park (Kirmesplatz).

The route is not signposted separately, but runs on the signposted Münsterland cycle route network and from junction 56 on the junction network. The access road to Diepenbrock Castle is outside the junction network behind junction 36.
