Roisdorf station (Bornheim)
Directions
“Next stop Roisdorf": that's how you start this tour. At the Roisdorf fountain, turn right onto the “Am Bähnchen” cycle path. Cycle along the railroad line for around 3 km to warm up for the ascent to the plateau. Then it's off: to reach the plateau, put the pedal to the metal and pedal hard to the outskirts of Impekoven. There you reach the first dirt roads. After passing through Witterschlick, the route becomes wooded. Typical for the area: long asphalt straights take you car-free through forest areas with few inclines. A paradise for pedalists who want to enjoy a steady rhythm without having to stop or worry about orientation. After around 10 km through the forest, you reach the village of Villiprost and the moated castle of Gudenau (can be visited, please note opening times). In a 10 km loop on asphalted country lanes, you cycle around the Radom, a landmark of Wachtberg that can be seen from afar. The route continues through Klein Villip, after which a large solitary tree will help you find your bearings: turn right here. In the village of Adendorf, a few places to stop for refreshments await you, closely followed by Münchhausen Castle. You zigzag along more lonely country lanes to cross the A 565 and make a nice approach on long straight roads towards Rheinbach. If necessary, you can take a closer look at the castle tower and a restored section of the famous Roman drinking water canal from the Eifel to Cologne. There are of course also good opportunities to stop for a bite to eat in Rheinbach, as you are now more than halfway along the route. Your return journey to the starting point takes you back through the heavenly straights of the fertile plateau. Fields as far as the eye can see. As soon as you have passed the turquoise-colored Quarzsee lake in Witterschlick, you can let it roll out to the starting point at the Roisdorf stop or give yourself some extra speed in between.
