Cycle route 8 around Dülmen

The Dülmen cycle tour no. 8 follows in the footsteps of tradition and small natural wonders around Dülmen. The almost 30-kilometre cycle tour leads through green landscapes and delves into the history of the "great Blomberg" and monastic life in Karthaus. Beautiful rest stops, idyllic landscapes and the districts of Buldern and Karthaus make the cycle tour a real cycling pleasure.

Cycle route no. 8 starts at Dülmen railway station. From here, the outskirts of the town are quickly reached and the Münsterland parkland frames the cycle path in the direction of Buldern. The district of Buldern is soon reached. The castle, which is well worth seeing, is inextricably linked with Gisbert von Romberg II. The unconventional nobleman was known for his sensational lifestyle and his pranks. His life not only found its way into the novel by Josef Winckler, but was also made into a film twice. Deutsche Bahn even named an Intercity train after him. Today, the castle is home to a boarding school. With its beautiful lake, it is a particularly picturesque photo motif.

The historic Spieker, which is over 250 years old, is one of the little sights along the way, as is the Buldener See lake. Embedded in fields and meadows, the cycle path reaches the picturesque former charterhouse Marienburg via the Mühlenbach stream. The only charterhouse in Westphalia stood here from 1466 to 1804. Today, the parish church of St. Jakobus forms the centrepiece, which, together with the gatehouses and the monastery tavern, forms a picturesque ensemble - a wonderful place for an extended break.

The Mühlenbach stream repeatedly crosses the rest of the cycle path and finally flows into the floodplain of the Welter Bach stream. The beautiful nature reserve is an important retreat for numerous bird species such as the kingfisher and the northern kingfisher and a place where you can relax and unwind.

The last few kilometres of the cycle tour lead back to the urban hustle and bustle of Dülmen, which still has an architectural feature to offer in the form of the Lüdinghauser Tor.

Travelling by train is particularly convenient. Trains from Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Enschede, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Münster, Osnabrück and Recklinghausen stop at Dülmen station, the starting point of the cycle tour. All platforms are accessible without steps.
